Draft of 26th amendment comprises 26 consensus points: Azam Tarar
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar announced the nation should be aware of the upcoming 26th amendment , which consists of a consensus-based draft with 26 points.
Speaking alongside Atta Tarar outside Parliament House, he highlighted that extensive meeting with coalition partners were held to finalise the draft, with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari playing a crucial role in engaging all allies ad building political consensus.
The proposed amendment retains the judicial commission’s authority to form branches and set a one-year timeline for the Council of Islamic ideology’s reports, and maintains the structure of the provincial judicial commission.
Additionally, a clause for the Shariat Court judges eligible for Supreme Court appointments has been included, emphasizing performance evaluation. Tarar also noted that Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faze Isa has declined extension three times, reflecting judicial independence. Atta Tarar emphasized the day marks a historic movement for the supremacy of Pakistani parliament and the rules of law.
