LAHORE (Dunya News) - Those who addressed the National Assembly, whether they belonged to government or opposition benches, praised the role of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in forging consensus on the bill.
The first parliamentarian who took to the floor before tabling the bill in the assembly was Bilawal Bhutto.
In his speech, he thanked the Maulana and attributed consensus on the bill to the efforts of the JUI-F chief.
He said Maulana was a seasoned politician, adding, “The politician I acknowledge after my father is Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
“Politician polarization is at its peak. But unity and political wisdom always strengthen democracy and the bill is the victory of politics and democracy.
“The role of Maulana in all this process is historical, which would be remembered. He played an important role.”
Opposition leader Omar Ayub also praised Maulana Fazlur Rehman and said he was a sincere leader.
“We had many meetings with Maulana on the bill. He tried his best to resolve our reservations about the bill,” the PTI leader said.
Khawaja Asif during his speech said the JUI-F played a significant role in creating consensus on the bill.
PM Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to the JUI-F chief. He said, “Bilawal and Maulana Fazlur Rehman made efforts sincerely for creating consensus on the bill. The voting was on merit.
“I wished that PTI should take part in the process, unfortunately it did not happen.”
In his address to the parliamentarians at the National Assembly, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said, “My speech is for appreciation and not for criticism.”
