ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - A delegation of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Thursday called on Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan.
The UNDP delegation included Qaiser Ishaq, Dr Ali Al Bayati, Usman Zafar, Babar Yaqub, Humaira Javed and Chaudhry Amjad Maan.
The UNDP offered to assist the Punjab Assembly in providing awareness sessions regarding the safe digital environment.
The delegation lauded Malik Ahmad Khan for highlighting the issue of fake news and supporting the parliamentarians on this important issue.
“The government is taking steps to prevent the fake news on social media while legislation is also being made in this regard in Punjab Assembly,” the speaker said.
He also praised the UNDP’s role in addressing the fake news.

He said that UNDP should organise awareness sessions to educate people about fake news.
He added that the government would provide all possible support to UNDP to curb the fake news.
According to Punjab Assembly speaker, the access to truth is a fundamental right of everyone.
“Unfortunately, people are being misled by the misuse of social media. Syllabus will have to be arranged in terms of correct use of social media and eradication of fake news in educational institutions,” he said.
