ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday announced a winter electricity relief package for domestic consumers, set to take effect from December 2024.

Speaking at an event celebrating Allama Iqbal’s legacy, the prime minister shared that under the package, the flat rate for additional electricity usage would be Rs26.07 per unit, offering consumers savings ranging from 34 percent to 47 percent.

This electricity relief package will be available for three winter months, from December 2024 to February 2025.

The prime minister also mentioned that inflation had decreased to 6.7 percent, while the interest rate had dropped from 22 percent to 15 percent, signaling a gradual improvement in the economy.

Emphasising the significance of Iqbal’s philosophy, the prime minister highlighted the need to embrace Iqbal’s message of self-reliance and transformation.

He pointed out that economic challenges had hindered the nation’s path to true independence and that neglecting Iqbal’s teachings had slowed the nation’s progress.

The Power Division has decided to provide bill relief for those using extra electricity in winter.

The package will apply to domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers. Domestic users will get per-unit relief ranging from Rs 11.42 to Rs 26, while commercial users will receive relief between Rs 13.46 and Rs 22.71 per unit. Industrial users will benefit from a per-unit saving of Rs 5.72 to Rs 15.05.
