LAHORE (Muhammad Ashfaq) - The Lahore High Court on Wednesday sought reply from the district administration over contempt plea related to the Aurat March.

Justice Anwaar Hussain conducted the hearing on the petition of activists Leena Ghani, Neelam Hussain, Fatima Jaan and Shereen Umair.

Assistant Advocate General Muhammad Usman appeared on behalf of the Punjab government.

The petitioners prayed before the court that Lahore’s deputy commissioner didn’t make any decision over the application seeking permission to hold Aurat March.

The contempt petition was moved against DIG operations, Lahore’s deputy commissioner and CTO.

Advocate Zeeshan Zafar maintained that no citizen can be barred from holding peaceful protest.

“The applications were moved to deputy commissioner on January 10 and 14 seeking permission to hold a rally on February 12 from Lahore Press Club to Egerton Road,” Advocate Zeeshan Zafar told the court.

The lawyer told the court that deputy commissioner isn’t responding on the application deliberately.

The court was requested to summon the deputy commissioner and other officials concerned in person.

“Why the issue of Aurat March is being raised in the court frequently,” Justice Anwaar Hussain questioned.

Later, the court sought reply from DC Lahore Syed Musa Raza till Feb 3 over the contempt plea.
