LAHORE (Dunya News) – More than 100 officials of Punjab police were dismissed from service for refusing to perform security duties during the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025.

The officials, who belonged to the anti-riot force, were relieved from their duties in line with the orders issued by DIG operations. It is for the first time in history of Lahore that more than 100 policemen have been dismissed simultaneously.

The dismissed personnel include Ateeq, Zain, Ali, Shiraz, Shan, Zubair, and Adeel.

Sources said the dismissed police officials had been absent from their assigned security duties for the Champions Trophy while several others made excuses to avoid security duties for the cricket matches.

They emphasised that there's no place in the department for those showing negligence and irresponsibility in performing their duties.

Meanwhile, a thrilling encounter is set to take place today (Tuesday) in the ICC Champions Trophy as Australia and South Africa go head-to-head in Rawalpindi.

Both teams, part of Group B, have secured victories in their opening matches - Australia defeated England, while South Africa overcame Afghanistan. A win in this match will significantly boost the chances of qualifying for the semi-finals.

Ahead of the match, both teams engaged in intense training sessions. South Africa’s captain, Temba Bavuma, acknowledged Australia’s strong record in ICC tournaments and emphasised the importance of setting a big target after winning the toss.
