LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday issued notices to the federal government and other authorities, seeking their responses on a petition challenging the amendment to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).

Justice Farooq Haidar of the LHC conducted hearing on the petition.

The petition which was moved through a journalists' organisation argued that the PECA Bill was introduced without consulting the relevant stakeholders and journalistic organisations.

It stated that the approval of the PECA would severely affect the freedom of expression guaranteed by the Constitution.

The petition further stated that the PECA was in conflict with the protection of freedom of expression guaranteed by the Constitution.

The petition requested that the PECA be declared null and void, and that actions taken under the PECA be conditional upon the final decision of the petition.

Subsequently, the LHC issued notices to the federal government and other authorities, seeking their responses on the petition challenging the amendment to the PECA.
