ISLAMABD (Dunya News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has summoned the IGP on a petition challenging a citizen’s illegal detention.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani heard the petition challenging illegal arrest of Ali Muhammad.
DSP Legal Sajid Cheema appeared in court on behalf of police.
At the outset of the hearing, Justice Kayani asked the DSP whether police officers had been arrested.
The DSP said a joint investigation team had been formed and the complainant was summoned to identify the police officers but he did not turn up. “He didn’t even respond to the call-up notice,” the DSP added.
Lawyer Sher Afzal Marwat said there was a CCTV footage of police officers picking up a man and there was no need for identity parade. He said kidnap for ransom was a grave issue.
He argued that the Secretariat SHO, SSP and other officers had not been removed and the entire activity seemed nothing buy an eyewash. He claimed to have call record evidence of SSP offering Rs500,000 to the applicant for case withdrawal.
The judge summoned the IGP in the next hearing on March 13.
