ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Defense Minister Khawaja Asif on Monday said he is ready to step down as defence minister if it resolves the issue [of Jaffar Express attack].

Talking to journalists at the parliament house here he said “I am being held responsible [for the attack]. If my resignation resolves the issue, then I am ready, I have no objection to it.”

Asif was reacting to the opposition’s demand for his resignation “after a security lapse” resulted in the attack on the Jaffar Express.

The opposition alliance held a joint press conference a few days ago and called the attack on the train “a terrorist” incident sue to a major security lapse and demanded the resignation of the Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar.

It may be noted that while speaking in the National Assembly, Asif had criticized the PTI founder for not condemning the attack. Reacting to his speech, PTI leader Asad Qaiser said that the minister was blaming the PTI for his incompetence.
