ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Parliamentary Committee on National Security, chaired by the National Assembly speaker, has issued an official statement following its meeting.

The meeting was attended by the prime minister, committee members, political leaders, the army chief, key government and defense officials, and senior security personnel.

According to the statement, the committee strongly condemned recent terrorist attacks. The country’s political and military leadership has decided to take firm action against terrorists and extremist elements.

The leadership resolved to utilise all available resources to completely eliminate terrorism.

A detailed review of the current security situation and the recent wave of terrorism was conducted.

The committee condemned any expression of sympathy for extremist terrorist organisations in Afghanistan.

Emphasis was placed on enforcing necessary national security laws and fully supporting security institutions.

The statement stressed the need for a well-coordinated and organised strategy to dismantle terrorist facilitators. Any group supporting terrorism will face strict action.

Additionally, the committee recommended strong measures against those promoting extremist narratives on social media.

The committee asserted that Pakistan’s institutions must have full freedom in enforcing laws and handling national security matters. It emphasized taking all necessary steps to combat terrorism and called for enhanced resources to improve law enforcement agencies' performance.

The committee also expressed regret over the absence of some opposition members but affirmed that consultations would continue.

Furthermore, the statement declared that in the fight against terrorism, no institution, individual, or group should show weakness. A strong and unified strategy is essential to ensuring national security.

At the end of the meeting, the National Assembly speaker requested a prayer from Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir, who led prayers for success in the fight against terrorism.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday vowed to uproot the scourge of terrorism from Pakistan saying "peace, order and security will be ensured in the country."

The premier was speaking to the participants in an in-camera meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security here at Parliament House.

Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir and Inter-Services Intelligence Director General Asim Malik also attended the meeting.

The prime minister said there’s no room for terrorism on the soil of Pakistan. “We cannot forget the sacrifices of our martyrs. We are determined to cleanse the country of terrorism. We will ensure peace, order and security in the country.”
