The lawyer further claimed that over 1,000 dogs have been killed in the past two weeks
LAHORE (Muhammad Ashfaq) - The Lahore High Court has ordered an immediate halt to the shooting-based dog culling campaign in Lahore Division and has sought a response from the Punjab government, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lahore, and the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL).
Justice Shahid Karim heard the petition filed by Irij Hassan and others, making the Punjab government, Commissioner Lahore Division, DC Lahore, and other officials respondents in the case.
The petitioner's counsel argued that the administration is illegally killing stray dogs, despite a policy being in place to control their population through vaccination. Instead of following this policy, the authorities have been culling dogs by shooting them.
The lawyer further claimed that over 1,000 dogs have been killed in the past two weeks. The petition also urged the enforcement of the Animal Birth Control Policy.
Issuing a stay order against the campaign, the Lahore High Court directed the government lawyer to appear with instructions at the next hearing. The court has halted the dog culling drive in Lahore Division until further notice.
