ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Former member of the National Assembly and senior politician Mahmood Molvi on Sunday said that Pakistan needs administrative units across the country to effectively address public issues and improve governance.

Talking to media in the federal capital, Molvi said that those who benefited from former intelligence official Faiz Hameed should not expect good news, adding that Faiz Hameed caused damage to institutions and individuals alike.

He said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) took full advantage of Faiz Hameed’s support, but now the time has come to put all cards on the table.

“All political parties must sit at one table and play their role for the country’s development,” he said, adding that accountability would be carried out against anyone who harmed the country.

Molvi said the public wants democracy to grow and believes in rule-based governance. Referring to ongoing discussions about administrative reforms, he said that the idea of creating smaller administrative units was not new, recalling that the Pakistan Peoples Party had earlier proposed and passed a bill for a new province in Punjab.

“With the population increasing rapidly, it has become the need of the hour to create administrative units across the country,” he said, adding that smaller units would help resolve people’s problems at their doorstep. “The creation of new provinces is unavoidable if we want to fix things,” he remarked.

He further said corruption exists from top to bottom, but accountability has now begun. “The army has even held its most powerful figure accountable, which sends a strong message,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, former Sindh governor Imran Ismail said that accountability had long been talked about, but now people are finally seeing it happen. “Pakistan is at a critical stage, and we must pull together to steer the country out of troubled waters,” he said.

Imran Ismail said all political parties, including PTI, must engage in dialogue. He criticized PTI’s leadership outside jail, saying the party’s workers had suffered while its leadership failed to deliver. He urged PTI to choose reconciliation over confrontation.

“The only way forward is through negotiations,” he said, adding that political tensions need to be cooled down. He warned those who benefited from Faiz Hameed to be cautious and criticized individuals who, he said, were driven by foreign money rather than national interest.

He said PTI should distance itself from such elements and keep its political struggle within democratic limits. “We are all Pakistanis, whether sitting on this side of the table or the other,” he said, stressing the need for dialogue and mutual understanding.

Imran Ismail also welcomed the punishment awarded to Faiz Hameed, calling it a positive step. He said the country earned global respect after success in the “Battle for Truth” and praised the armed forces for starting accountability from within.

He added that the DG ISPR did not name any political figure during the press briefing and expressed the view that the matter would not extend to former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa. He advised PTI leaders to avoid appearing on Indian and Afghan media platforms and instead work towards reconciliation.
