Body of woman who fell into open manhole in Lahore recovered

DIG Operations Lahore has confirmed that the dead body of the woman who fell into the manhole has been recovered, while the child is still missing and a rescue operation is ongoing to locate her.
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Rescue officials have recovered body of a woman, who fell into an open manhole near Data Darbar in Lahore along with her nine-month old daughter, has been recovered after more than five hours.
According to rescue sources, the dead body was recovered from the sewerage line at the Outfall Road while the search operation continues for the recovery of the missing child.
The DIG Operations Lahore has confirmed that the dead body of the woman who fell into the manhole has been recovered, while the child is still missing and a rescue operation is ongoing to locate her.
Speaking to the media about the incident in which a mother and her daughter fell into a manhole near Data Darbar, DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said that the unfortunate incident was reported and a call was received on 1122, after which a thorough investigation of the incident was carried out.
He said that after the recovery of the woman’s body, all institutions are jointly working to find the child. A committee has been formed to investigate negligence in the matter, and some officers have been suspended due to incompetence. The woman’s body was recovered from Outfall Road.
Faisal Kamran further stated that CCTV footage proved every statement of the woman’s husband to be true. The family had left after offering prayers at Data Darbar when the accident occurred. Safe City authorities have retrieved all relevant footage.
Before the recovery of the woman’s body, rescue sources had said that it was technically impossible for a human to drown in the sewage hole where it was claimed that two people had fallen. The location identified was Bird Market near Data Darbar, where the administration had been carrying out excavation work.
Rescue sources said that there was no light in the area at the time of the incident. Specialised teams of Rescue 1122 and divers reached the scene within minutes, while the Lahore administration stated that an inspection of the sewage line showed that no accident had occurred there.
Meanwhile, the missing woman’s father had given a statement to the police alleging that his daughter was murdered. Following this statement, the police arrested three people, including the woman’s husband, who were later released.
