Shab-e-Barat 2026 begins with Quran recitation and special prayers across Pakistan

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Shab-e-Barat is being observed across Pakistan tonight with deep religious devotion and reverence, as mosques and homes host special arrangements for worship and prayer.

The night holds significant spiritual importance for Muslims and is marked by widespread participation in religious activities.

Across major cities, including Lahore, mosques are illuminated and filled with worshippers offering special prayers, reciting the Holy Quran, and engaging in collective and individual supplications. Many families are also observing the night at home, dedicating time to prayer and reflection.

Religious scholars describe Shab-e-Barat as a night of immense blessings and mercy. They explain that while Allah Almighty’s mercy remains constant throughout the year, certain nights are granted special virtue, and Shab-e-Barat is considered among the most significant. It is believed to be a night when doors of repentance are opened for those seeking forgiveness for their sins.

Ulema further highlight the spiritual importance of the 15th night of Shaban, stating that, by Allah’s command, matters related to sustenance, life, and death for the coming year are decreed on this night. Worshippers are encouraged to seek forgiveness, offer prayers, and engage in acts of devotion.

Chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology, Allama Raghib Naeemi, said that Shab-e-Barat is also known as Lailat-ul-Mubarakah, meaning the Blessed Night. Referring to Hadith, he said believers are encouraged to observe prayers during the night and to fast the following day. He emphasised that it is a highly important occasion, during which deeds are presented before Allah Almighty.
