LAHORE (Dunya News) -  Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered enhanced surveillance and the continuation of combing operations across the province amid prevailing security concerns.

She chaired a high-level meeting on law and order where officials briefed participants on the overall security situation.

According to sources, strict monitoring was directed for individuals listed under the Fourth Schedule as well as other active elements.

In the context of the Israel-Iran conflict, the chief minister instructed authorities to further increase surveillance and place the province on high alert.

She directed that security be tightened at shopping malls, major markets, and other public places.

Police and district administrations in all districts have been ordered to remain vigilant, with strict monitoring of suspicious individuals.

It was also decided to make checking at entry and exit points more effective.

Maryam Nawaz ordered the deployment of additional personnel at key commercial centers and directed that search and combing operations in sensitive areas be intensified.

She emphasized ensuring an immediate response to any untoward incident and stated that no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands.

During the briefing, officials informed the meeting that security threats persist, prompting the high alert status.

Section 144 has been imposed across the province until March 7 in view of potential terrorism threats and risks to public order.

The meeting also reviewed measures regarding the repatriation of illegally residing foreign nationals, protest demonstrations, and other security-related steps.

The Home Secretary informed the participants that a complete ban has been placed on public gatherings of four or more persons and display of weapons across Punjab.

So far, 32,729 illegal foreign residents, including Afghan nationals, have been deported from the province.

Currently, 346 individuals are present at holding points. Among those deported are 12,356 men, 6,673 women, and 13,700 children.

Officials further stated that the province remains on high alert, with full monitoring of all key spots, direct surveillance of red zones and sensitive installations, and legal action being taken against individuals sharing content against national security on social media.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Zahid Zaman, Home Secretary Ahmad Javed Qazi, Additional IG Special Branch, CTD officials, and other relevant authorities.
