ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Saturday, marking a significant diplomatic engagement between Pakistan and Iran.

The meeting, currently underway, is being attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, alongside Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, underscoring the strategic importance of the discussions.

Earlier in the day, the visiting Iranian foreign minister held a separate meeting with Field Marshal Asim Munir in Islamabad, where both sides engaged in detailed talks on regional developments and bilateral cooperation.

According to diplomatic sources, the interaction marked Araghchi’s first formal engagement upon arrival in the capital, setting the tone for broader discussions later with the civilian leadership. Senior Pakistani officials, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and National Security Adviser Asim Malik, were also present during the earlier meeting with the military leadership.

The Iranian delegation comprised key figures such as Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghaddam, and Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei.

Sources indicated that both sides emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the region, while reaffirming their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations. Security cooperation and diplomatic coordination featured prominently in the discussions, reflecting shared concerns over regional developments.
