ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand arrived in Pakistan on Monday on her first official visit to the country since assuming office, with talks expected to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation and discussing regional and global developments.
The visit is taking place at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. During her stay, Anand and Dar are scheduled to hold bilateral talks covering the full spectrum of Pakistan-Canada relations.
The discussions are expected to focus on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, education and people-to-people exchanges, while both sides will also exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
During the visit, the Canadian foreign minister is also expected to call on Pakistan's leadership.
Pakistan and Canada enjoy cordial bilateral relations supported by strong people-to-people ties and a vibrant Pakistani diaspora in Canada.
According to the Canadian government, the visit marks the first by a Canadian foreign minister to Pakistan in nearly two decades and reflects both countries' shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation. It noted that more than 300,000 Canadians of Pakistani origin live in Canada, while around 20,000 Canadian citizens reside in Pakistan.
