(Dunya News) - At least 43 people have died and 177 others have been injured in rain-related incidents in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the ongoing monsoon season, according to reports released by the provincial disaster management authorities.
According to the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), 21 people have died and 154 others have been injured in rain-related incidents across the province this year.
The PDMA said two people were killed by lightning strikes, 15 in building collapses, three due to electrocution and one by drowning. No deaths have been reported among people swept away or stranded in floodwaters, it added.
The rains have also partially damaged 38 houses, while one livestock animal was killed.
The PDMA Punjab director general warned that urban and flash flooding remained a potential threat due to the ongoing rains.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 22 people were killed and 23 others injured in incidents involving collapsing roofs and walls and people being swept away by flash floods, according to the provincial disaster management authority.
The victims included nine men, 10 children and three women, while the injured comprised 11 men, five women and seven children.
The PDMA said 37 houses had been affected by the rains, including eight completely destroyed and 29 partially damaged.
Rain-related incidents were reported in Peshawar, Nowshera, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Shangla, Swabi and Lower Chitral.
Lower and Upper Dir, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Tank, Torghar, Kurram and North and South Waziristan were also among the affected areas
