Summary Three robbers arrested in Karachi's Dr Akash murder case were killed by accomplices' gunfire during a police raid, officials said.
KARACHI (Web Desk) – Three robbery suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Dr Akash were killed after coming under fire from their fleeing accomplices during a police raid in Karachi's Gulshan-e-Memar area, officials said.
According to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), the suspects had been taken along during a raid to identify and help arrest their absconding accomplices in Umar Brohi Goth. As police conducted the operation, the fugitives opened fire on the SIU team.
The exchange of fire left an SIU police officer injured. The three arrested suspects—identified as Suresh, Ram Chand, and Anil—were also critically wounded after being hit by bullets fired by their own accomplices. The attackers managed to escape during the shootout.
The injured suspects later succumbed to their injuries while being shifted to hospital, the SIU said.
Police said the suspects were involved in the July 13 robbery and murder of Dr Akash outside a bank in Clifton. The gang allegedly looted Rs2.5 million from the victim before opening fire and killing him.
The three suspects had earlier been arrested in a joint operation by the South Zone Police and the SIU. Three of their accomplices, including a woman, remain at large.
The SIU said raids are underway to trace and arrest the fugitives who escaped after the exchange of fire.
