ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-i-Sadr on Friday and congratulated him on Independence Day.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior and Narcotics Control Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan and Senator Sherry Rehman were also present during the meeting.
The prime minister briefed the president on the historic peace agreement reached between Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan in Makkah.
President Zardari expressed his best wishes for the effective implementation of the trilateral agreement, particularly in strengthening defence cooperation, promoting regional peace and stability, and enhancing the security of the Muslim world.
He appreciated the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz and Field Marshal and Chief of Defence Forces Syed Asim Munir to transform the longstanding fraternal ties among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye into a stronger strategic partnership.
The meeting also covered domestic and foreign affairs, including Pakistan’s ongoing operations against militants associated with Fitna al-Hindustan and Fitna al-Khawarij.
The president and prime minister paid tribute to the armed forces and law enforcement agencies for their professionalism and reiterated their determination to eliminate terrorism from the country.
Against the backdrop of the prevailing regional situation, President Zardari stressed the need for effective measures to provide relief to people facing economic difficulties and ensure the uninterrupted availability of essential commodities at affordable prices.
He expressed hope that Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to promote regional and global peace would further strengthen the country’s international standing and have a positive impact on the national economy and people’s lives.
