Summary Field Marshal Asim Munir arrives in Iran as Pakistan intensifies diplomatic efforts to promote regional peace, stability and a peaceful conflict resolution.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has arrived in Tehran on an official visit to Iran, accompanied by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
According to Iranian media, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni received Field Marshal Munir and Naqvi upon their arrival in the Iranian capital.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) had earlier confirmed that the two officials departed for Iran as part of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
During the visit, Field Marshal Munir is expected to meet senior Iranian officials to discuss bilateral relations, regional security and diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions.
The Pakistani military chief will also focus on efforts for a peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict and ways to advance regional peace initiatives.
Pakistan has consistently advocated dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred means of resolving regional disputes. Islamabad has also expressed its desire for lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei had earlier said that Field Marshal Munir would lead an official delegation to Tehran. According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between Iran and Pakistan and supporting efforts to promote peace and security in the region.
The visit comes amid Pakistan’s continued diplomatic engagement with Iran and other regional and international stakeholders to support peace efforts. Islamabad has maintained that it is prepared to use its diplomatic channels to facilitate dialogue and help resolve outstanding issues.
The visit also assumes significance amid stalled peace negotiations between the United States and Iran. Pakistan has previously hosted and participated in high-level diplomatic engagements involving the two sides and has continued to call for a negotiated settlement.
The Foreign Office has said Pakistan will continue using direct and indirect channels to support constructive dialogue and efforts aimed at preventing further escalation.
Field Marshal Munir’s visit marks his third trip to Iran this year, underscoring the importance Pakistan attaches to maintaining high-level communication with Tehran amid the broader regional crisis.
