KHAIRPUR (Dunya News) - The last ruler of erstwhile State of Khairpur, Mir Ali Murad Khan II, died on Monday at the age of 93, his son Prince Mir Mehdi Raza Talpur has confirmed his death.

He was under treatment at a private hospital in Sukkur. The district administration has declared a public holiday in the entire district on Tuesday (today).

The funeral prayers for the deceased will be offered on Tuesday (today) at 11am. There is an atmosphere of grief in Kot Diji on the news of the death of Mir Ali Murad Khan II.

Mir Ali Murad Khan II was born on June 29, 1933, in Brighton, United Kingdom.

He became ruler of the State of Khairpur in July 1947 at the age of 14.

During his reign, the State of Khairpur acceded to Pakistan on Oct 3, 1947. He remained the final ruler of the State of Khairpur.

The separate rule of the state came to an end with the introduction of the One Unit scheme in 1955. His death marks the end of a significant chapter in the history of the former State of Khairpur.

Former Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan had crowned Mir Ali Murad Khan Talpur, during which time he was given full state powers after a 17-gun salute.
