Summary US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says ties with Pakistan are strategically important for Washington.

(Web Desk) – US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that maintaining relations with Pakistan is important for Washington, drawing a comparison with India's need to maintain ties with Iran.

In an interview with Indian media, Rubio said the United States opposed terrorism anywhere in the world and stood against individuals or countries that support terrorist activities.

He noted that Washington maintained relations with Pakistan and considers these ties necessary from a geopolitical perspective.

Rubio compared the US-Pakistan relationship with India's engagement with Iran, saying that just as the Indian government needs relations with Tehran and holds meetings with Iranian leaders, the United States also needs to maintain its relationship with Islamabad.

He indicated that Washington's engagement with Islamabad might provide an opportunity to play a constructive role in resolving issues.
