Starlink to operate in Pakistan on temporary basis
(Web Desk) – In a major move, Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the US-based satellite internet channel ‘Starlink’ has been given temporary registration in Pakistan.
She said the development occurred after the orders of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. She added that all regulatory department gave their inputs on the matter and after thorough deliberation, Starlink has received a no-objection certificate (NOC).
Talking about the PTA, she said the body monitor all licensing demands by the company. She said under the leadership of PM Shehbaz, the country is making progress towards digital development.
She added internet service coverage will spread around the far away areas of the country. Elon Musk’s starlink will get a license as per the policies of PTA.
The clearance from PSARB is a mandatory condition for satellite-based internet-providing companies to operate in the country.
After obtaining the PTA license, the Starlink is expected to take one year to launch its services in the country, the sources added.
