(Web Desk) - In a new move to simplify its services, Meta has announced that it will shut down the standalone Messenger website messenger.com, starting April 2026.

According to an advisory issued by Meta, users attempting to access Messenger through messenger.com after the shutdown will be automatically redirected to facebook.com/messages.

This is not the first major change introduced by the tech giant. Last year, Meta discontinued Messenger desktop applications for both Windows and Mac as part of its strategy to streamline its platforms.

The company clarified that while the standalone website and desktop app are being discontinued, users can continue messaging through Facebook’s web platform at facebook.com/messages.

Meta said the move is aimed at consolidating its services and enhancing user experience by centralizing messaging under the main Facebook website.

Users who rely on Messenger through desktop should make sure they have access to their Facebook login details, as web chats will only be available through Facebook once the change takes effect.

Moreover, for those who prefer a smooth experience, they can continue using the Messenger app on iOS or Android, which remains unaffected. It may also be wise to back up important conversations in advance.
