Summary Paraden was livestreaming his search on TikTok when he found the diamond
(Dunya News) - A US Navy reservist has discovered a 6.03-carat diamond while searching for gemstones at Arkansas’ Crater of Diamonds State Park, with some estimates putting its potential value at more than $1 million.
Jack Paraden, who has spent more than 12 years searching for rocks and precious stones as a hobby, made the remarkable discovery earlier this year while digging at the park with a friend.
Paraden was livestreaming his search on TikTok when he found the diamond. After washing a bucket of gravel and turning its contents onto a table, he noticed a sparkling stone among the material.
He immediately realised that he had found something unusual and was overjoyed upon learning that the stone weighed 6.03 carats.
Reports said the diamond is roughly the size of a fingernail and is the largest diamond discovered at Crater of Diamonds State Park so far this year.
Some gemstone experts and collectors have estimated that the stone could be worth more than $1 million. However, an experienced appraiser said a diamond of similar size and quality could be valued at around $250,000.
The discovery marks an extraordinary breakthrough in Paraden’s more than decade-long hobby of searching for gemstones, which he said had never previously brought him any significant financial reward.
