MANIPUR (Web Desk) - The suspension of internet and mobile data services in the Indian state, Manipur, has highlighted significant cyber-security failures in the country.

Media reports indicated that the internet blackout, implemented in September 2024 amid rising tensions and protests, served as a cover for broader cyber-security shortcomings, raising concerns about both internal and external cyber threats to India.

According to international media, the suspension has severely impacted economic activities, particularly online transactions and business operations, as the Indian government has restricted access to crucial information, aggravating the crisis.

During the blackout, the lack of reliable information has led to rampant rumors, while communication breakdowns have deepened distrust, raising the risk of further unrest.

It is important to note that the state of Manipur has been experiencing ethnic turmoil since armed clashes erupted in May this year between the majority Hindu Meitei community and the Christian Kuki community, which prompted the Indian government to suspend internet services in the region.
