Indian government has imposed a five-year ban on the Awami Action Committee
(Web Desk) – Indian government’s policies have threatened the cultural and religious identity of the Occupied Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS), the Indian government has imposed a five-year ban on the Awami Action Committee and Jammu & Kashmir Ittihad-ul-Muslimeen, citing threats to India's sovereignty, integrity, and security.
The organizations have been accused of supporting militancy, promoting anti-India narratives, and raising funds. The All Parties Hurriyat Conference condemned the ban, calling it an attempt to suppress Kashmiri political voices.
Several historic Muslim sites in occupied Kashmir are being neglected or erased under Indian policies. Over the past two decades, numerous Islamic libraries and madrasas have been seized or shut down.
In February 2025, police raided dozens of bookstores, confiscating hundreds of copies of Islamic scholar Maulana Maududi’s books. More than 500 restrictions have been placed on Kashmiri mosques over the last four years.
Schools teaching the Kashmiri language have been closed or restricted. Institutions offering music and poetry education have dwindled from over 90 to just 15 in the last 25 years.
Traditional industries such as handicrafts, carpet weaving, and shawl-making are also in decline.
