Summary Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi calls for a comprehensive export plan, citing domestic production and easier business travel as priorities.
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that increasing exports is the way forward for improving the national economy and resolving the country’s problems, stressing the need for a comprehensive plan to boost exports.
Addressing a Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry ceremony, Naqvi congratulated the newly elected members. Referring to remarks made by Gohar Ejaz, he said the solution was to increase the country’s exports through every possible means. He added that those who had served in government knew that targets had to be achieved.
Naqvi said he had visited Iran several times over the past three to four months. He said Iran was previously perceived as a country in a difficult economic condition, but people returning from there were surprised to see that products in various sectors, including construction and the automobile industry, were being manufactured domestically.
The interior minister questioned why Pakistan could not produce goods domestically if Iran could manufacture products for its own market. He said Pakistan should learn from other countries and develop a practical plan to increase exports.
Naqvi said he was ready to resolve all issues faced by the Lahore Chamber and would be available whenever his assistance was required. He added that efforts had previously been made to address traders’ problems wherever possible.
He said the government had been working on a business passport for the past few months and had approached relevant embassies regarding difficulties faced by traders in obtaining visas. He expressed hope that the business passport plan would be presented to the prime minister and would help reduce difficulties faced by the business community.
The interior minister further said the country’s system was about to be reset, but cooperation from traders and the public was essential for the process. He said things would improve significantly once the system was reset, adding that he was also part of the business community and would continue to stand by it.
