State-owned enterprises' profit falls 7% in first half

Summary Pakistan’s SOEs recorded a 7% decline in profit to Rs423.3 billion during July-December 2025, while net profit fell 30% to Rs80.5 billion.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The Ministry of Finance has released its half-yearly report on state-owned enterprises (SOEs), showing a 7% decline in their profit during the first six months of the current fiscal year.

According to the report, the combined profit of SOEs fell from Rs457.2 billion to Rs423.3 billion during the period under review.

The report showed that SOE losses remained almost unchanged, declining marginally from Rs342.9 billion to Rs342.8 billion between July and December 2025.

The report also recorded a 30% decline in the net profit of state-owned enterprises during the six-month period. Net profit fell from Rs114.3 billion to Rs80.5 billion.

The Ministry of Finance said the report was part of the government’s ongoing reforms concerning state-owned enterprises and fulfilled another requirement under Pakistan’s commitments with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to the document, the equity of state-owned enterprises declined by 3% during July-December 2025, falling from Rs6,628.7 billion to Rs6,407.2 billion.

SOE liabilities decreased by 1% during the period, while their assets declined by 2%.

The total assets of state-owned enterprises fell from Rs37,729.7 billion to Rs37,107 billion between July and December 2025.

The latest figures highlight the continued financial challenges facing Pakistan’s state-owned enterprises, despite ongoing government efforts to improve their performance and reduce losses.
