Summary Petroleum Division has asked OGRA to take legal and administrative action over fears of LPG hoarding and artificial shortages despite imports meeting domestic demand.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Petroleum Division has urged the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to take action against suspected liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) hoarding amid concerns that irregular supplies could trigger artificial shortages and price increases in the domestic market.

In a letter to OGRA, the Petroleum Division said LPG imports were being maintained according to domestic demand. However, reports indicated that imported supplies were not being lifted regularly from terminals, raising concerns about possible stockpiling.

The division warned that the situation could create an artificial shortage in the local market and push up prices despite the availability of imported LPG.

It asked OGRA to take appropriate measures to prevent hoarding and ensure the regular movement of LPG from import terminals to areas where the fuel is needed.

The letter also called for necessary legal and administrative action to maintain uninterrupted supplies and protect consumers from artificial shortages.

The Petroleum Division highlighted the importance of LPG for people living in mountainous and remote areas, as well as regions not connected to the national gas network.

It stressed that preventing supply disruptions and unjustified price increases was essential to ensuring that consumers in these areas continued to have access to the fuel.
