Lady doctor Mehwish Hasnain was shot dead in Kohat. Young doctors launched protests, suspending emergency services, demanding immediate arrest of suspects and justice.
KOHAT (Web Desk) - A lady doctor, Mehwish Hasnain, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Kohat on Monday.
According to police, Dr Mehwish Hasnain was on her way home after completing her duty at the hospital when unknown gunmen opened fire on her at Double Road in the KDA area. She was critically injured and immediately shifted to the hospital by Police Station KDA personnel; however, she succumbed to her injuries.
Police have launched a search operation to arrest the suspects and tightened checking at all entry and exit points of the city. District Police Officer Kohat, Shehbaz Elahi, visited the crime scene and directed investigating officers to expedite the probe.
Following the incident, young doctors staged a protest, resulting in the suspension of all emergency services in hospitals across Kohat.
Protesting doctors warned that hospitals across the province would remain closed until justice is served to Dr Mehwish. They demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits, stating that the protest would continue if their demands are not met.
The funeral prayer of Dr Mehwish Hasnain will be offered today at 3pm at Janazah Gah No. 3, Swa Lakh Graveyard, Kohat.
