Says Chinese govt expressed concerns and demanded security measures
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday emphasised the need for strict security arrangements for Chinese nationals in Pakistan.
Speaking at a federal cabinet meeting, PM Shehbaz expressed his condolences over the tragic terrorist incident in Karachi which resulted in the death of two Chinese nationals and left one injured, with several Pakistanis also wounded in the attack.
He mentioned that following the Basham incident, the Chinese government expressed concerns and noted that strong measures should be in place to ensure the security of Chinese nationals working in Pakistan.
He assured them during his visit to China in June that no stone would be left unturned to protect the Chinese nationals but unfortunately, the recent incident occurred.
The prime minister conveyed his regret during a meeting with the Chinese ambassador, stating that despite all efforts, this incident took place which was a source of embarrassment for him.
However, he reaffirmed the commitment to further strengthen the security measures.
PM Shehbaz assured the Chinese ambassador that comprehensive arrangements had been made for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit and shared the details with him.
He reiterated that countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and China had once again provided robust support for Pakistan's IMF programme.
He noted that a Saudi delegation was expected to visit soon, followed by a visit from the Chinese prime minister, providing Pakistan with an opportunity to host the SCO.
Recalling the 2014 sit-in at D-Chowk, PM Shehbaz remarked that the founder of PTI, Imran Khan, did not recognise the economic repercussions of the postponement of Chinese president's visit.
Shehbaz Sharif questioned that if there were protests and violence, who would invest in the country.
He accused the PTI of plotting to undermine the nation, asserting that they were troubled by Pakistan's economic recovery.
