LAHORE (Dunya News) - Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan on Saturday lashed out at the government for passing the Pakistan Electronic Media Prevention Act (PECA), saying that the government shouldn't stifle people's voice by using force.

Speaking to media outside the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), Khan said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had voted for the controversial PECA and Digital Nation Bill for which it should be repentant.

He said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had fully opposed the bill in both houses of the parliament, adding that the government didn't want to let freedom of speech and democracy prevail in the country.

"There is a record inflation in the country. The economy is in a shambles. The situation of Balochistan is worsened to the core. How can investment come in conditions like these," he added.

He slammed the Punjab police saying that the latter can't compete the dacoits of riverine areas while accusing them of targeting the PTI workers only.

Earlier, the ATC extended Khan's bail in three May 9 related incidents.
