The verdict of two-member bench was beyond its constitutional jurisdiction
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The federal government on Monday moved an intra-court appeal in the Supreme Court in the case of contempt plea against the additional registrar of apex court.
It was pleaded in the petition to declare null and void the verdict of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Aqeel Abbasi.
The verdict of two-member bench was beyond its constitutional jurisdiction, the federal government pleaded in the petition.
The government maintained that the regular bench cannot hear such cases after the constitutional amendment.

“No bench has the power to play the role of judges’ committee to form any bench,” the government pleaded in the petition.
Earlier, the Supreme Court has removed Additional Registrar (Judicial) Nazar Abbas from his post following the controversy regarding fixing the case.
A notification issued by Additional Registrar (Administration) had stated that Nazar Abbas had been made an officer on special duty (OSD).
According to the statement, Abbas was found guilty of a blunder by scheduling a constitutional bench case for hearing before a regular bench.
The notification stated that the additional registrar’s action wasted court’s and litigants' time and resources.
