Maulana Hamidul Haq among 8 dead in Nowshera suicide blast

NOWSHERA (Dunya News) – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) leader Maulana Hamidul Haq was assassinated in a suicide attack inside Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak area of Nowshera during Friday prayers. The blast left seven others dead and a dozen injured.
According to the police, the suicide bomber blew himself during the prayers. Maulana Hamid, the son of Maulana Samiul Haq, suffered injuries and died on way to hospital.
As soon as the incident was reported, Rescue and police teams reached the scene and moved the injured to hospital.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General Zulfiqar Hamid told media that Maulana Hamid was the target of the attacker. According to early investigation, it was a suicide attack, he added.
The IG said 25 personnel were deployed for security of the seminary. Further investigation are going on.
Maulana Hamid became the chancellor of the seminary and the ameer of the political party after his father Maulana Sami-ul-Haq was assassinated on November 2, 2018, in Rawalpindi.
CONDEMNATIONS AND CONDOLENCES
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the blast and sought a report regarding the incident. He condoled the assassination of Maulana Hamid and death of other namazis and prayed for swift recovery of the injured.
He stated that cowardly and despicable acts of terrorism cannot undermine our resolve in the fight against terrorism. “We are committed to the complete eradication of all forms of terrorism from the country.”
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also strongly condemned the blast and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured worshipers.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed sorrow over the blast and sought an immediate report from senior officials.
The governor stated that the attack on Jamia Haqqania in Akora Khattak “is a conspiracy by forces hostile to Islam and Pakistan.”
