SC delists all May 9 cases as Punjab govt seeks more time for prep

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Supreme Court has delisted all cases related to May 9 and May10 events scheduled for the current and following week.
A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, heard the cases.
During the proceedings, senior lawyer Zulfiqar Naqvi requested more time, stating that the Punjab government had recently appointed him as counsel for the May 9 cases and he needed preparation time.
Chief Justice Afridi noted that the cases were also scheduled for the next two days and criticised repeated requests for delays, emphasising that nearly 50 appeals were involved.
Naqvi urged the court to postpone this week’s hearings so he could prepare for the upcoming ones. The Chief Justice pointed out that some appeals related to case transfers, which had already been resolved, advising the lawyer to seek instructions from the government. Naqvi responded that since the judge had been transferred, the appeals would focus only on fines and observations.
Subsequently, the court accepted the Punjab government’s request for more time and postponed all hearings until after Eid.
It is noteworthy that the Lahore High Court had granted bail to the accused in the May 9 cases, and the Punjab government has challenged these bail approvals in the Supreme Court.
