PIA flight lands without one wheel, investigation underway
KARACHI (Dunya News) – A PIA flight landed in Lahore yesterday with one of its front tires missing; however, the lost wheel has now been recovered.
According to the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), the missing wheel of PIA's Karachi to Lahore flight PK-306 was found near the remote parking bay at Jinnah International Airport.
PAA spokesperson stated that wheel shop technicians discovered the wheel close to the landing gear of a grounded Boeing 777 aircraft.
The PAA confirmed that no casualties or financial losses were reported due to the wheel detaching from the aircraft.
A PIA spokesperson confirmed that after landing in Lahore, one of the plane’s wheels was found missing. The PIA Flight Safety Department, together with the CAA, has launched an investigation into the matter.
The statement further noted that while the final report will provide more clarity on the cause of the incident, initial findings indicate the wheel may have been affected by a fault on the runway or some external factor.
However, it was emphasized that the aircraft made a smooth and safe landing in Lahore, and the plane's design ensures such an incident does not pose a risk to aviation safety.
