Summary Imaan Mazari moves Supreme Court against IHC order, seeking sentence suspension, challenging legality of trial court verdict under PECA law.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Imaan Mazari has challenged the February 19, 2026 order of the Islamabad High Court in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, seeking suspension of her sentence.

In the petition, it has been requested that the Supreme Court amend the high court’s order and suspend the sentence. The plea states that while the Islamabad High Court admitted the main appeal for hearing, it did not suspend the sentence, terming it an unlawful exercise of discretionary powers.

The petition further argues that the trial court’s verdict was based on mala fide intent, illegal, and beyond jurisdiction. It also contends that recording evidence in the absence of the accused constitutes a serious violation of law.

It is pertinent to mention that Imaan Zainab Mazari was sentenced by a trial court to a total of 17 years imprisonment under various provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016. A cumulative fine of Rs36 million was also imposed.
