Summary Court approves Rs3.92 billion plea bargain in Upper Kohistan scandal, orders accused’s release and imposes 10-year public office disqualification.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - An accountability court has approved a plea bargain request of accused contractor Muhammad Ayub in the Upper Kohistan financial scandal.

The court accepted a plea bargain worth over Rs3.92 billion during proceedings presided over by Judge Muhammad Zafar, following a request submitted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

During the hearing, Deputy Prosecutor General Muhammad Ali and Special Prosecutor Manak Shah appeared before the court.

The NAB prosecutor informed the court that the accused was nominated in a Rs37 billion embezzlement scandal in Upper Kohistan and had been taken into custody during the investigation. The accused later filed a plea bargain request from jail, which was approved by the NAB chairman.

According to officials, the accused has so far submitted pay orders worth Rs119 million, while properties located in Abbottabad, Islamabad, Mansehra, and Rawalpindi have been handed over to NAB to cover the remaining amount.

The court ratified the plea bargain and ordered the release of the accused. However, Muhammad Ayub has been disqualified from holding any public office for 10 years.
