Summary Pakistan joined SCO talks in Moscow focusing on regional security, cooperation and stronger measures against terrorism threats.

MOSCOW (Shahid Ghumman) - An important consultative meeting of deputy foreign ministers from Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states was held at the Russian Foreign Ministry on regional security and international activities, with Pakistan actively participating.

The meeting, held on April 24, 2026, focused on enhancing coordination among SCO member states and making the organization’s global engagement more effective.

Participants also discussed strengthening the regional security framework and adopting modern measures to address current challenges.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia Faisal Niaz Tirmizi represented the country at the meeting and highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts regarding the Islamabad talks.

He described the SCO as an important platform for promoting regional peace, security and cooperation, adding that Pakistan remains committed to the organization’s principles, the United Nations Charter and international law.

The Pakistani envoy emphasized the need for joint measures against terrorism, extremism and illegal drug trafficking, while underlining the importance of cooperation for inclusive security and sustainable development in the region.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi also held meetings with heads of delegations from Russia, Belarus, Tajikistan, China and Kyrgyzstan to discuss matters of mutual cooperation under the SCO framework.
