Summary Authorities in Bajaur have released a list of victims after cross-border firing from Afghanistan killed nine civilians, including women and children, amid escalating border tensions.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – The Deputy Commissioner of Bajaur has released a detailed list of individuals killed and injured in firing by Afghan forces targeting civilian areas along Pakistan’s north-western border.

According to the official record, nine people were killed, including three women and six children, in cross-border shelling.

The list, made public by the district administration, provides the names of those affected, aiming to remove any ambiguity regarding the scale of human loss in the affected areas. According to official statements, mortar shells were fired from across the border during March and April 2026, impacting several civilian-populated localities in Bajaur, particularly Mamund and Salarzai tehsils. The attacks caused both fatalities and injuries among residents, with damage also reported to residential property in affected villages.

Local authorities have confirmed that emergency response teams and administrative officials were deployed to the impacted areas following each reported incident. Visual documentation and photographs circulated locally have also shown the aftermath of the shelling, according to officials and residents.

Security sources stated that the Pakistan Army responded to the incidents by targeting what were described as military positions and gun locations across the border. Officials emphasised that the response was carried out with precision, and that no civilian areas on the other side of the border were deliberately engaged during the retaliatory action, according to military briefings.

The situation has heightened tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where sporadic cross-border incidents have been reported in recent months. Authorities on the Pakistani side maintain that efforts are being made to avoid civilian harm while responding to security threats originating from across the frontier.

Residents in Bajaur have expressed concern and anger over the repeated incidents of cross-border shelling, urging stronger measures to protect civilian populations living in border regions. Community members have called for sustained attention to the security situation, particularly in areas frequently exposed to such incidents.

Officials also noted that similar cross-border episodes have previously been reported in other frontier districts, including Khyber, Kurram, and North Waziristan, where civilian casualties and property damage were recorded in earlier incidents.
