LAHORE (Dunya News) - Weather authorities have forecast dust storms and rainfall across Punjab, including Lahore, as a weak weather system continues to affect the province, bringing relief from the recent spell of intense heat.

According to the Meteorological Department, Lahore recorded a minimum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius on Saturday, with the mercury expected to rise to around 34 degrees Celsius. Dust-laden winds accompanied by rain are likely in Lahore and several other parts of Punjab during the day.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for strong winds, rain and possible hailstorms across the province.

The authority said rainfall is expected in most districts of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Bhakkar, Layyah, Faisalabad, Jhang, Okara, Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Wazirabad.

Rain has also been forecast for Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Khushab, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Kot Addu and Mandi Bahauddin.

The PDMA further warned of possible rainfall in Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Jhang and surrounding areas.

PDMA Director General said all commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab have been placed on alert following directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. In Lahore, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has instructed operational staff to remain on standby in anticipation of rainfall.

Authorities have advised citizens to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open spaces during lightning activity, and take precautions against strong winds and dust storms. Farmers have been urged to make necessary preparations in view of the changing weather conditions, while tourists travelling to northern areas have been advised to exercise caution.
