ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a new spell of monsoon rains across the country, warning of heavy downpours, urban flooding and landslides during the first week of July.

According to the Met Office, rain is expected in several areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir from July 1 to 6, including Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Bagh and Haveli. Different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also likely to receive rainfall between July 1 and 5.

Rain has also been forecast for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum. Sahiwal, Jhang, Multan and Khanewal are expected to receive rainfall from July 3 to 6.

The Met Office said monsoon rains are also likely in Gilgit-Baltistan from July 1 to 5, while several areas of Sindh and Balochistan may also receive showers.

The department warned that lightning and heavy rains could damage vulnerable structures, while landslides remain a risk in mountainous areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir.

It added that flash floods may occur in streams and local waterways in hilly regions. Heavy rainfall could also trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Lahore and Faisalabad.

The Met Office advised tourists and travellers to avoid unnecessary journeys due to possible hazardous weather conditions.
