ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged religious scholars to play their role in promoting unity, brotherhood and peace in society by following the teachings and exemplary character of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).
Addressing the annual International Seerat-un-Nabi Conference in Islamabad on Wednesday, the prime minister said scholars had a key responsibility to guide the nation and protect young people from sectarianism, extremism and misleading ideologies.
He called on religious scholars to promote the Prophet’s message of tolerance, dialogue, forgiveness and compassion, stressing that differences among scholars should not become a source of division.
Shehbaz said the moral and personal character of the younger generation must be developed in light of the noble character of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
He welcomed the development of a comprehensive framework by the National Rahmatul-lil-Alameen Wa Khatamun Nabiyyin Authority, saying it had been implemented in Islamabad while provincial governments were also pursuing similar initiatives.
The prime minister said young people were facing growing challenges from extremism, sectarianism and misleading ideas.

He stressed the need to address their questions with wisdom while providing them with knowledge of Islamic traditions alongside modern education.
He said scholars trained in religious seminaries should demonstrate strong moral character and integrity and, after assuming responsibilities at the pulpit, should spread the message of unity in light of the Uswa-e-Hasna.
Shehbaz also highlighted the universal message of peace, mercy and compassion embodied in the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), saying the world should be encouraged to recognize his teachings as a path toward global peace.
The prime minister praised Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace and Muslim unity and appreciated the role of Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
He said efforts to divide Muslims in the Middle East had failed, adding that the Makkah Agreement was a major outcome of these efforts.
He also praised Turkiye and Saudi Arabia for standing by Pakistan during last year’s May conflict.
Religious Affairs Minister Sardar Muhammad Yousaf urged youth to seek guidance from the Seerat, describing it as a complete model for individuals, families, societies and the state.
The conference was also addressed by prominent scholars, while the prime minister presented awards to writers of Seerat books.
