Summary Pakistan summoned India’s Chargé d’Affaires over the killing of two Pakistani civilians by BSF personnel in the Bedian Sector, demanding a transparent investigation and accountability.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan on Saturday summoned India’s chargé d’affaires to lodge a strong protest over the killing of two Pakistani civilians by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel near the international border in Kasur.

According to the Foreign Office, the incident took place in the Bedian sector on Friday, when BSF personnel opened fire on three unarmed Pakistani civilians. Two of them were killed, while the third sustained injuries.

The Foreign Office said the Indian border personnel had used “unprovoked and lethal force” against the civilians, calling the use of force unjustified and disproportionate.

Pakistan also rejected any attempt to portray the deceased as “infiltrators”, the statement said.

The Foreign Office described the incident as a serious violation of fundamental human rights, including the right to life, and raised concerns about the protection of civilians under international law.

It urged India to conduct an immediate, transparent and credible investigation into the incident and take appropriate legal and disciplinary action against those responsible. Islamabad also asked New Delhi to formally share the findings of the investigation and details of any action taken.

The Foreign Office further called on India to respect fundamental human rights and international law, follow bilateral arrangements and established border procedures, exercise maximum restraint and take steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.

According to the report, the three civilians belonged to Ladhar village and had moved a few steps beyond a border pillar when the BSF personnel opened fire without warning. The men were unarmed.

The deceased were identified as Azmat Rasool and Mohsin Jutt, both residents of Jattan Wali Haveli in Ladhar. The injured man was shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Security sources said the three civilians had not attempted to cross the border fence, describing the incident as a violation of the agreement and standard operating procedures governing the international border.
