Summary PDMA Punjab forecasts rain across several districts on October 6-7, warns of landslides, thunderstorms and urges citizens to take precautions.
LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a rain alert across the province, forecasting rainfall in most districts from October 6 to 7.
According to PDMA Punjab, rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Wazirabad.
Rain is also likely in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Faisalabad.
PDMA Director General Saif Anwar Jappa said there was a risk of landslides in Murree, Galiyat and other mountainous areas. Commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province have been directed to remain alert.
He said district administrations had been alerted in accordance with the directions of the Punjab chief minister. The health, irrigation, communication and works, local government and livestock departments have also been placed on alert.
The PDMA chief urged citizens to adopt precautionary measures during adverse weather conditions and avoid living in dilapidated or mud-built houses.
Saif Anwar Jappa advised people to stay at safe locations during strong winds and storms and avoid unnecessary travel. He also urged citizens to remain in safe places to protect themselves from lightning.
He stressed that special care should be taken of children and they should not be allowed to enter waterlogged areas or go near electricity wires and poles. Citizens should avoid open areas during thunderstorms and severe weather.
