Summary Warns against fuelling unrest as province faces serious security challenges
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has claimed that the head of a political party is deeply upset over not receiving a share in the proposed imposition of governor’s rule or securing the governorship.
Without naming the politician, Naqvi criticised what he described as decades of reliance on the establishment for political support, saying such leaders should not point fingers at others.
Speaking informally to journalists in Lahore, Naqvi maintained that the politician had relied on the establishment for years and had even sought its assistance in arranging air tickets for members of his political party. He said political differences were legitimate, but public debate should be based on facts and arguments rather than abusive language and accusations.
The interior minister’s remarks come amid political tensions surrounding governance, the distribution of resources and security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Erstwhile Fata resources
Naqvi also questioned the stance of political leaders who have recently expressed concern over the allocation of resources to the districts formerly comprising the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).
He asked why these leaders had remained silent for years when the erstwhile Fata districts were allegedly not receiving their rightful share of resources. He questioned why they had not spoken out earlier in support of the rights of residents in these areas.
The former Fata region was merged with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2018 as part of a major administrative and constitutional restructuring. The integration brought the formerly tribal districts under the provincial government's administrative framework, while questions concerning funding, development and the delivery of public services have remained important policy issues.
Naqvi said the rights of former Fata residents and the allocation of resources to their districts should be treated as matters of public interest rather than viewed through the lens of political advantage.
Security concerns
Turning to the security situation, the interior minister said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was facing serious challenges and needed political cooperation to restore peace and eliminate terrorism.
He urged political leaders to contribute to maintaining law and order rather than inflaming tensions or creating further instability. According to Naqvi, the province's circumstances demanded collective efforts to address security concerns instead of further political confrontation.
His comments placed renewed emphasis on the relationship between political disputes and the province's wider security challenges, as questions over governance and resource distribution continue to feature in the political debate.
Naqvi reiterated that political disagreements should be addressed through reasoned discussion, while leaders should focus on supporting peace, stability and efforts to counter terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
