GUWAHATI (Web Desk) - Indian captain Shubman Gill produced a breathtaking display of batting in Guwahati on Wednesday, smashing a record-breaking double century against West Indies and becoming only the second batter after Rohit Sharma to score multiple ODI 200s.

Gill reached the landmark in just 117 balls, making it the fastest double century in ODI history.

His second 200 came in spectacular fashion, with the right-hander hitting 24 fours and seven sixes as India chased a daunting target of 406.

Gill had previously scored an ODI double century against New Zealand in Hyderabad in 2023.

He added another milestone to his remarkable innings by bringing up his 11th ODI century in only 62 balls, with five sixes and 10 fours.

The century was his second in successive ODIs and his third consecutive hundred in ODIs played in India.

Only Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, with four consecutive centuries each, have achieved a longer streak in the format on Indian soil.

Gill’s 62-ball century also set a new record for the fastest ODI hundred by an Indian captain, surpassing the mark previously held by Rohit Sharma, who reached the milestone in October 2023.

The India skipper had already played a key role in the opening ODI, scoring 110 from 108 balls.

In the second match, he built a huge opening partnership with Rohit, with the stand reaching 192 when Gill completed his century.

West Indies had earlier piled on 405 for seven, their highest-ever ODI total, on a flat Barsapara Cricket Stadium pitch.

John Campbell led the charge with 101 off 68 balls, while captain Shai Hope scored 104 from 94 deliveries.

Amir Jangoo then smashed 114 off 77 balls, including 13 fours and three sixes.

For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the standout bowler with two wickets for 65 runs.
