ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has issued directives to relevant institutions and telecom companies to ensure uninterrupted telecom services across the country amid monsoon rains and possible emergencies.

The ministry has instructed all telecom operators to take preventive measures to protect their networks and infrastructure so that communication services remain operational during heavy rains and natural disasters.

According to ministry sources, emergency call centres operating under Rescue 1122 will remain fully functional across all four provinces, with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) serving as the central coordinating body.

Officials said all emergency calls received on 1122 would be responded to promptly during emergencies. Provincial emergency call centres would remain in continuous coordination with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to ensure an effective emergency response.

Ministry sources said 27.8 million emergency calls were received during last year's floods, while only 7% of telecom sites across the country were affected by natural disasters.

They added that 99% of the affected telecom sites were restored within a month, demonstrating the sector's capacity to restore communication services during emergencies.
